Light Steps – A Poem on the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

{O Prophet! We have sent you as a witness, and a bringer of good news and a warner}
{And a caller to Allah by His permission and a light-giving lamp}
Qur’ān 33:45-6
Follow in the illuminated steps of the Prophet ﷺ with a poem for our times in the seerah tradition, relating and reflecting upon stages in the history of the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ journey. Light Steps is written in the style of a devotional, narrative ballad with a rhyme scheme set in a four line quatrain, and explores elements of the Prophet’s life as a meditation on his light-filled message and character.
“Allah is the source of all Light. The Quran is light, Angels are light, our spirituality is a light, intellect is a light, faith and conscious energy are also a light. Muhammad ﷺ is of flesh and bones but is blessed with the most powerful of light, a light that fills the spiritual and physical worlds by the Grace of Allah.”
The horizon was lit up
With Light of Divine Inspiration.
As Jabal al-Nūr bore the weight
Of the beloved’s illumination.

Veiling our beloved
And his companion within a cave.
A thread of spider silks woven
To distract a hunter’s gaze.
