Insaan – Matthew Bain

“we are the forgetting intimates of Allah,
the ignorant go-betweeners of creation,
would-be correlators of temporal with Divine.
Wisdom courses nature’s veins,
now all but over
as we lay waste
to heather hives
with hegemonic heresies.
Mottled butterflies danced this year
with iridescent spasms
riddled with meaning,
but we have armoured ourselves
against nature
with stupidity”
